Ok folks, some basic pets have been implemented. Feel free to use them. Currently we have them spread about in multiple cities so go look about and share the word. However, there are a few things to know and rules to follow...

1. They work like Henchmen which means they have an inventory and such.
We will be adjusting things to make it more appropriate, but currently you can put over 100 lbs on a dog. Now, take note of two things.... If you put anything in his inventory and he dies, it will drop to the ground like loot. However if you unsummon him (or you leave the server which unsummons him) then your items on him disappear forever. They will NOT be replaced by the DM's.

2. These are here for RP purposes. They are NOT walking bait for monsters or trap triggers. If a player is caught just using them to help their combat then there will be punishment. If you do not wish to use them as a loved pet, then do not buy them.

3. If a pet dies, your trigger disappears with him and you must buy another pet if you want him replaced. These are not to replace familiars or give access to familiar type animals which can be brought back after death. I recommend that if you are in a dangerous area, that you "put him away" by unsummoning your pet. Also, pet's are allowed in towns and shouldn't have any problems form the local guards...

4. Pet Triggers are "No_Drop" and you can only own one at a time. This was to keep players from buying dozens and having a zoo following them about. However, AT THIS TIME, it also means that if you buy a dog and then want a cat, all you can do is kill the dog to get rid of the Pet Trigger. It's a bit unsettling a decision, but for now, just RP that you "set him free" or whatever. We will try to fix this with the new update to allow you to return the animal to the originating merchant.

If anyone finds other bugs or thoughts, let me know. I hope everyone enjoys this unique addition.

As of this time, there are a Dogs, Cats, Falcon, and Hawks. More will be added as quest / special merchant items as time goes on.

Ravens, no hawks.

There's a cat seller in the refugee camp west of rivermoot, a dog seller in querrvarr, and a falconeer (and raveneer?) just outside RWK.

Additional info: If you use the pet item on yourself while the pet is NOT out, it will trigger a conversation allowing you to rename the pet. Any possible further additions/options will be through this conversation.

Just an idea about how to get rid of an unwanted pet.

You could have one NPC in each of the major towns that's interested in having a pet. So if you no longer want Fydo the Wonder Mongrel, you can sell/give him to the ugly boy by the well.

I have no idea of the mechanics that would entail. It's just an idea borrowed from a game completely unrelated to NWN.

Could be done, yes :). Nice ideas, and thanks for the bug reports too.

Stone? Perkko? Thoughts?
