everyone seems to speak common, if they learn another language its of a different race. I would like to see generic language tokens (ex. various human langs from different regions, Amn, Shou Lung, Chult, etc) implemented if possible, I think haven had something like this if memory servers, the words used seem all pretty jumbled to me :P

I like that idea, although I guess it would mean scripting for the Entry to the Silver Marches choosing a native region on character creation.

Or you could just have DMs hand out tokens to those that ask for them. Not everyone would want or care about em.(I would however)

Battledale did that on their updated server version. PRoblem was, it was hard to find people of the different areas of Faurun that spoke the different languages, and went unused.

It was used on Haven a fair bit. Not the regional languages, but the more exotic kind (racial: Dwarven, Orc, Goblin, Animal... planar: Abyssimal, Celestial etc).

I think this would be interesting, but would it really be used? How many "regionally unique" players do we have? I don't want to spend all the time putting this together and designing it just to have it used by two or three people tops.... Or even worse, having 5 different regional tokens handed out, but each person from a different region and again, unused.

Now, the question also is, are all regional differences actually different languages or just different dialects? For example, Americans from the North and South "sound" different, but are still speaking English. Hell, even the British and Americans are basically speaking the same language even though they are different countries.

Course, I recognize that distance isn't a determination of differing languages just as compared by how close somewhere like Germany and France is, yet they speak different languages.

Again, I'm open to the idea, but don't want to implement something that will basically get unused.

Why not just create one basic language set (all the same mixup of characters) and just rename the files for each of the languages (a quick fix I think). I am sure someone could come up with a list of regional languages quite simply.

Since it is for RP purposes only, there should be no problem if the languages look alike when spoken as long as only those that actually speak it will get the translated message in the side box.

Not sure if it works this way or not...

A complete list of languages is on page 85 of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book. Everyone does speak common as it is the trade language. If wanted I can post the complete list with areas spoken and alphabets. I also note that many regions use the same language "Chondathan", including the Silver Marches.

Not that I'd mind in particular, but I thought I might bring up that the addition of lots of regional languages would probably add quite a bit more traffic to the DM channel.

On the flip side, I'd love to see them implemented. :D Adds another dimension of play.

Note, that the DMFI languages can be expanded upon. For instance, I found myself needing to add "Druidic" (secret language shared between druids only) and "Sylvan" (spoken by Fey) at some point. If there are languages lacking that people would want, that is a possibility.

Perhaps even a generic sign language for those mute people :)

Might be easier to communicate if Van learns it :)
